Compression Hosiery:

Compression dressings and compression stockings are being used with tremendous success for the last 30 years or more. veins This is the most common type of conservative treatment of the varicose disease proven to be beneficial even if surgery or other treatment modalities are not available at the time. They are also widely used for clot prevention while travelling, in post-op patients and during pregnancy. There is common physical law behind the use of pressure hosiery – Bernoulli's principle, stating that the highest flow speed occurs where the pressure is lowest and vise versa. By applying gradual pressure from outside we decrease the pressure in the affected vein increasing the blood flow velocity. When correctly applied, pressure stockings provide relief from tired aching legs by applying greatest pressure at the ankle. Then the pressure gradually diminishes along the leg enhancing venous circulation. The proper fitting is the key to ensure the stockings work for you. Since veins that have once been distended are no longer able to actively contract, such compression in some cases must be used for the rest of the patient's life if surgery is contraindicated. We would be happy to provide you with a proper fit in our office. We require using pressure hosiery while receiving treatment. Most of the third party insurances will cover up to 80-100% of the cost per year for 1 or even 2 pairs.
